2008 Metro Chamber Capitol-to-Capitol Trip:
Flood Protection/Water Resources and Transportation Top Priority List

The 2008 Cap-to-Cap Trip, April 5-9, took more than 350 delegates from the Sacramento region to Washington, D.C. More than 200 appointments were held with elected and government officials. And in anticipation of these meetings, over four months preceding the trip, participants researched and wrote 91 issue and appropriation request papers to make the case for federal funding and policy activity on many important issues that affect the region's economy, prosperity, businesses and families.
Edward Lazear, Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, President of the United States, addressed delegates on Monday.

Top priorities for the trip were securing immediate funding to provide 200-year flood protection for our region and advocating for streamlining regulatory barriers that are impediments for the region’s capacity to obtain this protection, while protecting the region's water supplies, water quality and environmental resources; advocating for balanced transportation solutions that improve the region’s connectivity; ensuring the Sacramento region has access to the capital it needs to emerge as the state’s clean and green energy technology leader and extending health care coverage to low-income children.

Since 1895, Metro Chamber volunteers have worked to improve the economy and enhance the quality of life in the greater Sacramento region. The annual Cap-to-Cap Trip is one of many Metro Chamber activities that brings the region's business, labor and government leaders together to build consensus for important regional priorities. Cap-to-Cap is the largest local chamber of commerce program of its kind in the nation.
